Gorilla trekking with the elderly persons in Uganda.

Gorilla trekking: Gorillas are the closest animals, mammals mention it to humans, everyone would love to see an ape that you share almost 100% dna in person. These can only be found in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo though half of the world’s Gorillas are left in Uganda. Visiting the gorillas in Uganda would never disappoint as you will find plenty of them in 5 different families of Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo, Rushaga and Nyakagezi in the Bwindi impenetrable forest and Mgahinga National Park.

The tropical rain forests are deep down in the southern parts of Uganda, so thick and are a home to the most endangered mountain gorillas of Uganda. Gorillas are vegetarians as we may say vegan, they feed only on green but they weigh up to 400kgs and can bare kids normally as us humans. They stay in groups as a family as mothers take care of their babies, till they grow up to fight the farther and take care of the territory. In the forests they make canopy kind of houses where they will rest at the end of the day.

If planning on an Africa safaris we are much aware of the fact that gorilla trekking  in Bwindi, Mgahinga and Volcanoes National Park can be tedious and requires a certain level of fitness to trekking until you find the Gorillas something that may be lacking with the elderly people.

  1. Booking The Gorilla permits Early enough.

When Organizing gorilla trekking for the old,  booking the permits as early as possible is the key to a successful Encounter, this gives the tour operator enough time to also book the guides on the ground that are so keen with the elderly and locating which family to trek from also the nearest lodges around that family as possible..

  1. Ask for potters

Gorilla trekking means walking and walking till you find the gorillas, taking into consideration the elderly that can walk for a short time and require a push or a pull. In this case, we advise that such old people should take porters who are always available at the park headquarters. These porters are very helpful since they will give you a push or a pull when it is required to ensure that your make it to the gorillas. These potters can as well carry your back pack as you try walking.

  1. Hiring sedan chairs

All this brings us back to booking early enough for the gorillas. The sedan chairs are not so many and are also booked and reserved in advance for the elderly. These are carried and pushed by the guides at the park. They are available at the Bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga national park.

  1. Travel with family.

One of the most heart wrenching things I ever encountered were seniors who had just arrived in Uganda nu-escorted from an overseas flight. They were having language difficulties and were clearly confused by everything that was going on. While I did my best to help them, I have never forgotten the experience.

All would have been much better if they had a teen or a family member to accompany them as things flow. And its when I realized moving with a family seniors is the best because you can know when they are tired, need a nap, driving so fast, which transport they need and when it comes to gorillas some one family could be in better position to help and talk to them so that they enjoy the ultimate Gorilla encounter.

When traveling with a senior citizen, you’ll have to take it slower than you normally would, and account for their need to lie down and relax more frequently. Gorilla trekking for two hours may seem cheaper 600 dollars but thinking about the habituation may be the best because it takes more hours.

Talk to an expert all will be arranged for you to the fullest.
